Key Responsibilities
The purpose of the role
As a Nursery Person, your goal is to support the production and dispatch of high-quality plants for city-wide beautification and conservation projects. You’ll contribute to the growth of native and exotic species, maintain clean, pest-free nursery stock, and help deliver on Hamilton’s environmental vision.
- Assist with plant production including annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees
- Support propagation, pruning, and nourishment of nursery stock
- Maintain weed, pest, and disease control in the nursery
- Operate potting machinery and equipment where needed
- Help with seasonal workloads and special planting projects
- Collaborate with team members to meet production goals
- Ensure quality standards are met across all nursery operations
Required Qualifications & Skills
About you
We’re looking for someone who’s enthusiastic about horticulture, detail-oriented, and comfortable working outdoors with a proactive attitude.
- Experience working in a commercial or council nursery
- Excellent knowledge of native plants, trees, and shrubs
- Familiar with pest and disease management methods
- Skilled in potting, seedling care, and bedding production
- Able to prioritise tasks and meet seasonal deadlines
- Communicates clearly and works well within a team
- Full Class 1 Driver’s Licence required
- GrowSafe certification (preferred)
- Experience with eco-sourcing is a bonus
