We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated Farm Manager to lead operations at Dairy 1, one of our key dairy units in Manawatū. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to sustainable farming practices while working closely with staff, students, and researchers on a progressive, real-world learning farm.

Key Responsibilities
The purpose of the role
As Farm Manager of Dairy 1, your mission is to oversee daily operations, manage herd performance, and uphold the university’s standards in animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and practical learning delivery.
- Lead and carry out daily milking, feeding, and general farm duties
- Manage herd health, pasture growth, and nutrition plans
- Monitor and respond to seasonal changes in stock and feed
- Operate farm machinery and maintain on-farm equipment
- Maintain accurate records for compliance and reporting
- Work collaboratively with university staff, students, and visitors
- Support on-farm trials and research activities where required
Required Qualifications & Skills
About you
We’re looking for a capable and confident farm leader with a strong background in dairy operations and a passion for hands-on, people-focused management.
- Solid experience in dairy farming, preferably in a management role
- Excellent stockmanship and animal health knowledge
- Confident in operating tractors, feeding out, and general maintenance
- Understanding of Health & Safety standards on farm
- Effective communicator who can work with diverse stakeholders
- Minimum Level 3 Agricultural or Horticultural qualification preferred
- Willingness to engage with training and research initiatives
