Assistant Gardener – Street Landscapes

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Gardener, you’ll play an important role in maintaining the natural beauty of our streets and public spaces:

  • Perform daily upkeep of street landscapes across the city
  • Assist with planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, and seasonal gardening
  • Support the wider Parks & Recreation team when needed
  • Operate gardening tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Follow health and safety practices in all outdoor tasks

Required Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who bring a mix of practical experience, a love for the outdoors, and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative team:

  • A Grow Safe certificate or prior gardening/landscaping experience preferred
  • Traffic Management knowledge (TC/STMS qualifications desirable)
  • Full, clean NZ Driver Licence
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Familiar with general tools, plant care, and safety protocols
  • Reliable, proactive, and a team player
  • Physically fit with a strong work ethic
