KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Butcher at Caroline Meats, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality meat preparation and customer satisfaction.
Your duties will include:
- Cleaning meats to prepare for cutting and processing
- Cutting carcasses, sides, and quarters
- Preparing standard and special cuts of meat as ordered by customers
- Wrapping and packaging meats for retail and wholesale sales
- Weighing and pricing meats accurately
- Grinding meats and preparing specialty sausages
- Slicing cooked meats and shaping/tie roasts, poultry, and seafood
- Supervising junior butchers, meat cutters, and fishmongers
- Ensuring strict food safety and hygiene standards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
CAROLINE MEATS are looking for butchers who are skilled, dependable, and committed to high-quality meat preparation.
- Registered Apprenticeship Certificate OR equivalent experience
- Experience in meat cutting (asset, but not mandatory)
- Valid Meat Cutter Trade Certification (provincial/territorial)
- Strong knowledge of meat processing techniques
- Ability to operate equipment such as:
- Band saw, power grinder, slicing machine
- Salami mixer/cooker, sausage machine
- Manual cutting utensils
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Physical ability to handle heavy loads and perform demanding tasks
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety standards
SECURITY & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants will be required to complete:
- Criminal record check
- Medical exam (if requested)
