KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Butcher at Caroline Meats, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality meat preparation and customer satisfaction.

Your duties will include:

  • Cleaning meats to prepare for cutting and processing
  • Cutting carcasses, sides, and quarters
  • Preparing standard and special cuts of meat as ordered by customers
  • Wrapping and packaging meats for retail and wholesale sales
  • Weighing and pricing meats accurately
  • Grinding meats and preparing specialty sausages
  • Slicing cooked meats and shaping/tie roasts, poultry, and seafood
  • Supervising junior butchers, meat cutters, and fishmongers
  • Ensuring strict food safety and hygiene standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

CAROLINE MEATS are looking for butchers who are skilled, dependable, and committed to high-quality meat preparation.

  • Registered Apprenticeship Certificate OR equivalent experience
  • Experience in meat cutting (asset, but not mandatory)
  • Valid Meat Cutter Trade Certification (provincial/territorial)
  • Strong knowledge of meat processing techniques
  • Ability to operate equipment such as:
    • Band saw, power grinder, slicing machine
    • Salami mixer/cooker, sausage machine
    • Manual cutting utensils
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Physical ability to handle heavy loads and perform demanding tasks
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety standards

SECURITY & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants will be required to complete:

  • Criminal record check
  • Medical exam (if requested)
  • References required
